Iranian best known player, Hamed Haddadi 7’2”, positioning center from Iran Mahram Tehran Club continuously leading their team and win a lot of champion titles. Iran have captured three of the last four FIBA Asia Championship titles and there is a good chance they will make it four out of five this summer when the team competes at the event in China. (FIBA)

Where is Andre Blatche?

The Filipinos are making a comeback in the tournament after a three-year absence. In their last participation in 2012, they copped the gold medal. But in its tournament opener, Gilas Pilipinas won’t have its best player as naturalized Filipino Andray Blatche had to go back to the United States on the eve of the team’s game to attend to family matters. Blatche might still be back in Taiwan at the end of the week, but that means that the Filipinos won’t have the former NBA player to rely on for the majority of the tournament. (Interaksyon)

“After not being able to practice too much with the team, I used that as far as getting my conditioning back,” Blatche told Fraulein Olavario of News5 after the team’s return from the European trip.
Coach Tab Baldwin is not about to rush Blatche, saying: “We don’t want to ask Andre to solve our problems for us.”

Baldwin, however, said that he could give Blatche some time on the floor against the young Taiwanese, but it will all depend on how tired the naturalized center is from his trip.

Blatche, when he arrives, will have missed a full week of practice and games and will again need to double up with the Fiba Asia Championship for the region’s lone Olympic berth set in China on Sept. 23. (sports.inquirer.net)

“But I’m realistic. I’m realistic about where we are. We’re not gonna react to anybody else’s expectations – only our own,” Baldwin said.
