Weather Forecast Update: Low Pressure Area (January 12-18)

SYNOPSIS: Tail-end of a Cold Front affecting the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao. Northeast Monsoon affecting Luzon.

Forecast: Cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides will be experienced over the regions of Central Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and the province of Southern Leyte. Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms is expected over the rest of Visayas and Mindanao and the province of Palawan. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the entirearchipelago withmoderate to rough seas.

THE EFFECT OF TAIL-END OF A COLD FRONT OVER VISAYAS AND MINDANAO HAS WEAKENED. HOWEVER, CLOUDY SKIES WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE RAINS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO PREVAIL OVER VISAYAS, MINDANAO AND THE PROVINCE OF PALAWAN.

THE LOW PRESSURE AREA (LPA) EAST NORTHEAST OF ZAMBOANGA CITY HAS DISSIPATED. MEANWHILE, THE TAIL-END OF A COLD FRONT WILL CONTINUE TO BRING CLOUDY SKIES WITH MODERATE TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY RAINS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER VISAYAS AND THE REGIONS OF NORTHERN MINDANAO AND CARAGA. RESIDENTS IN THESE AREAS ARE ALERTED AGAINST POSSIBLE FLASHFLOODS AND LANDSLIDES.

Cagayan de Oro Updates

Cagayan De Oro, heavily-battered by Typhoon "Sendong" in 2011, was forced to declare a state-of-calamity Tuesday as result of the severe rain and flooding it experienced again Monday, 01-16-2017.

According to NDRRMC, flooding in CDO affects 4,879 persons, forces evacuation of 3,911 others.

Evacuation Centers
  1. Bulua Covered Court in Barangay Bulua (27 families consisting of 117 individuals)
  2. Nazareth Covered Court (22 families with three families from Barangay Camaman-an)
  3. 4th Infantry Division Gymnasium in Patag (30 families or 120 individuals)
According to City DSWD rains displaced 31 families, destroyed two houses and damaged 29 others in Barangay Canitoan, and affected 20 families or 89 individuals in Barangay FS Catanico.

Residents living near the Cagayan de Oro River and Iponan River were advised to leave the area at about 8:20 p.m. Monday, particularly those from barangays (villages) Pagatpat, Tuburan, Tumpagon, Pigsag-an, Taglimao, Pagalungan, Lumbia, San Simon, Canitoan, Iponan and Bulua. (PNA, 01-17-2017)

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started providing assistance to the families affected by flooding.

The NDRRMC chief said they are still confirming reports that three persons were killed, and three others hurt and another one missing in Monday's heavy flooding.

Misamis Oriental Updates

Class Suspension, 01-17-2017: Pre-school, elementary and high school levels acccording to Governor Yevgeny Vincent Emano.

There is one fatality in Opol municipality, and one missing in Magsaysay town. The death is being confirmed.


Evacuation Updates

  1. Gingoog City, 47 families (231 individuals) from Barangay 23 were evacuated to the Gingoog City Comprehensive National High School
  2. 34 families (131 individuals) to the Talisay Elementary School
  3. five families (31 individuals) to the Talisay National High School
  4. 61 families (304 individuals) to the Santiago Barangay Hall
  5. 47 families (215 individuals) from Barangay 25 and four families (20 individuals) from Barangay Lunao to the ASL Gym
  6. 37 families (101 individuals) from Barangay 24A to the GCJC Evacuation Center

Iligan City, Lanao del Norte Updates


  1. 30 families were reportedly being housed temporarily at the Mahayahay Center
  2. 25 families at the Del Carmen Evacuation Center
  3. 35 families at the Ubaldo Evacuation Center
  4. 22 families at the San Roque Evacuation Center.
DSWD-Northern Mindanao has prepositioned relief aid for the provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental.
