"The Super Parental Guardians" has become the country's highest grossing local film of all time surpassing Beauty and the Bestie, an MMFF entry last year 2015, according to Star Cinema executive Roxy Liquigan. In less than 4 weeks the movie already grossed P500 million, most successful local film of all time in the Philippines. (December, 2016)

It has been resounded from the news the two unexpected
entries were not included in finalist: The Super Parental Guardians and
Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers. But even these two entries
are not included they’re expected to lead the grossing film of the year 2016. Both
films were released, November 30, 2016.
Here are the criteria on choosing the 42nd MMFF finalist:
- audience appeal, overall impact (40%)
- cinematic attributes at technical excellence (40%)
- global appeal (10%)
- Filipino sensibility (10%)
Remember that among
the top 25 all-time local grossing film, Beauty and the Bestie still hold the place for an estimated ₱526,000,000, a 2015 MMFF entry. And for this year
not included the December new films and MMFF entries are as follows:

Top Grossers MMFF 2016 Updates (12/27/2106)
Top grossers for the first day are (in alphabetical order): Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2; Die Beautiful; Seklusyon and Vince, Kath and James.
According to a statement from the MMFF Executive Committee (ExeCom), released on Monday, December 26, 2016: "We have re-assessed and set a new benchmark for this festival, we nevertheless look at the financial sales for the first day as a real bonus as we have already achieved what we started out to in the first place, which is the cultural advancement through Filipino films."
30% Discount
"On the third day, on the 27th
of December 2016, the producers, in cooperation again with the theaters and
distributors, have been given the option to sell tickets for 30% discount for
PWDs, senior citizens, and students,' Veteran actress Boots Anson-Roa, member
of the MMFF Executive Committee (ExeCom), said.
