R.A. No 9547 Amendment or An Act Strengthening and
Expanding the Coverage of the Special Program for Employment of Students,
Amending for the provisions of Republic Act No. 7323, otherwise known as the
special program for employment of students.
“Under the SPES law, we will not only be serving poor
but deserving students and out-of-school youth, but also dependents of
displaced workers, and would-be displaced workers due to business closures or
work stoppages, or natural calamities, who intend to enroll in any secondary,
tertiary or technical-vocational institutions,” said Labor Secretary Silvestre
H. Bello III
According to the new revision, SPES Employment Period
is now longer from 52 to 78 days or 3 months. There were also changed for the
age limit of the beneficiaries from 15 to 25 yrs old now is extended up to 30
years of age.
“Under the new law, the SPES beneficiaries will be also
be entitled to social protection by virtue of an insurance coverage with the
Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for a period of one (1) year,” based
on the secretary.

Employment (BLE) Director Dominique R. said they will release guiding and
regulatory documents from DOLE for SPES Implementation after consultation and endorsement
of the key stakeholders.
