ADVISORY No Tsunami Threat
A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 occurred Near the Coast of Central Peru on 2018 January 14 at 05:19 PM (Philippine Standard Time) located at 15.7oS, 74.7oE with depth of 10 km. No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data.This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake. According to USGS - Tectonic Summary: The January 14, 2018, M 7.1 earthquake offshore southern Peru occurred as the result of shallow thrust faulting on or near the boundary between the South America plate and the subducting Nazca plate.
The epicenter of the January 14, 2018 earthquake, and resulted in at least 14 fatalities and left 12,000 people homeless.
