Santiago's cancer growth in her left lung has been arrested

Manila - Miriam Defensor Santiago now considering running for president.

“I don’t know what the reactions of my enemies are,” she said. “Maybe they will be happy because on one hand, I might die, and then they could get rid of me. But on the other hand, I might survive and then I will get rid of them.” Santiago’s statement after the shocking announcement of stage 4 lung cancer.

Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago announced that she is considering running for president in the 2016 elections after being informed that the spread of cancer in her left lung has been controlled.

Dr Mark Kris, her “correspondent doctor” and chief of the Thoracic Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center and considered one of the best said that although no patient can be pronounced cured of cancer, Santiago, while following the medical prescriptions of Kris, has been able to control the cancer, meaning that cancer growth in her left lung has been arrested,'' her statement read.

“I was ‘happily surprised’ by the publication in a news website of a survey by Publicus Asia listing the following in the order of voter preference for the presidential elections: Grace Poe, Miriam Defensor Santiago, Jejomar Binay, Francis Escudero, Rodolfo Duterte, and Mar Roxas,” Santiago said.

“To remain in the consciousness of voters despite an absence of over a year is certainly a challenge, including remaining in public service. And I consider it in that light,” Santiago said of the survey result.

In August last year, she said she may run for president if she recovers from her lung cancer. She, however, said money for a possible campaign will be a concern.

In the last Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey which was dominated by Sen. Poe, Santiago was named the seventh most preferred potential presidential bet, tied with Sen. Escudero with 4 percent. In the latest Pulse Asia Survey, she landed on the fifth spot with 6 percent.
