Tropical Storm "BASYANG" - 12 February 2018
"BASYANG" HAS SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED WHILE MOVING CLOSER TOWARDS EASTERN MINDANAO issued at 5:00 PM, 12 February 2018.
At 4:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm "BASYANG" was estimated based on all available data at 435 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (07.3 °N, 130.1 °E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph moving West Northwest at 23 kph. Forecast Positions: 24 Hour(Tomorrow afternoon): In the vicinity of San Luis, Agusan del Sur(8.5°N, 125.5°E).
Weather Forecast: Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail in the next 24 hours over Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, North Cotabato, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. Residents of these areas must continue monitoring for updates, take precautionary measures against possible flooding and landslides, and coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices.
Expected Landfall: Caraga Region tomorrow morning or afternoon (February 13).
Seaboard Update: Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS), the seaboard of Northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas due to the approaching Tropical Storm and the surge of the Northeast Monsoon..
