ISSUED AT 5:00 PM, 22 December 2019 Trough of Tropical Storm "PHANFONE" [outside PAR] affecting Mindanao. °Easterlies affecting the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas.
ACTIVE TROPICAL CYCLONE OUTSIDE PAR AS OF 3:00 PM TODAY TROPICAL STORM PHANFONE (1929) LOCATION: 1,265 KM EAST OF MINDANAO (7.9 °N, 137.8 °E) MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS: 65 KM/H GUSTINESS: UP TO 80 KM/H MOVEMENT: WEST NORTHWEST AT 25 KM/H
Tropical Cyclone Advisory THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION EAST OF MINDANAO INTENSIFIES INTO A TROPICAL STORM WITH INTERNATIONAL NAME "PHANFONE".
"PHANFONE" has no direct effect on any part of the country at the moment. It may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between tonight and tomorrow (23 December) morning and will be named "URSULA". The Tropical Storm is forecast to make landfall over Eastern Visayas-Caraga area on Tuesday (24 December) evening. Then, it will traverse the Visayas area. Beginning Tuesday (24 December), moderate to occasionally heavy rains may prevail over Visayas and northeastern Mindanao. The international name "PHANFONE" (meaning: an animal) was contributed by Laos.
REGIONAL FORECAST: Mindanao will experience Cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms due to Trough of TS. Possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorm.
